LETTER: ‘Disappointed’ in Conservative MLA from Surrey
Published 6:00 pm Monday, March 2, 2026
Editor,
At a time when British Columbia and Canada are facing serious economic challenges, our elected officials should be focused on affordability and economic stability. Instead, I am disappointed by the actions of the BC Conservatives in the Legislature.
Bryan Tepper, BC Conservative MLA Surrey-Panorama, invited Mr. Sunshine — a controversial far-right online influencer — into the Legislature last year. That decision does not reflect the priorities of many residents in Surrey Panorama. It raises real concerns about whose voices are being amplified and why.
This week alone, the BC Conservatives voted against protections for transgender children and supported efforts to repeal B.C.’s Human Rights Act, two bills put forward by OneBC MLA Tara Armstrong known for her extremist views. This suggests a focus on ideology rather than the pressing economic issues people are facing.
Mr. Tepper won his riding by just 1.5 percent. In such a close race, an MLA should work to represent everyone, not just those who share his personal views.
If the BC Conservatives support future legislation that waste our taxpayer dollars and time, I believe we should be all prepared to exercise our rights to recall these MLAs, which begins April 20, 2026, to vote in those who tax this job seriously.
Carianne McKay, Surrey
