It’s time to celebrate spring and, perhaps even take your own first step toward artistic expression.

Semiahmoo Peninsula artist Wendy Mould will be conducting a special introductory class as part of Surrey Artswest’s Spring Expressions show at Newton Cultural Centre this March.

The class, “Introduction to Drawing with Pen and Watercolour,”will take place Friday, March 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Supplies are included in the class, which is by donation, although pre-registration (through wendy@artbywendy.com) is required.

Spring Expressions runs from Wednesday, March 4 to Saturday, March 28 at Newton Cultural Centre, 13530 72 Ave., Surrey.

The exhibition and sale will feature works by 17 members of the not-for-profit Surrey Artswest Society, formed in 1987 to promote interest in the arts and encourage advancement for artists looking to build their skills.

It’s billed as “a vibrant showcase bringing together a dynamic group of local artists—each with a distinctive style and vision.”

The spring-inspired works celebrate individuality while sharing one powerful message: art matters in our community.

In keeping with its motto – “artists helping artists” – society members are united by a shared passion for growth and collaboration, Mould said in a media release.

“Our members create art that speaks to the heart and reflects the Surrey we know and love,” she added.
