LETTER: White Rock needs to get back to ‘old-fashioned’ crime fighting

Pier stabbings reignite concerns over safety

Editor,

What is the common denominator in all of this uptick in violent crime in the White Rock area?

We have had drive-by shootings in our neighbourhood and others as well. Unprovoked stabbings at the Pier, car racing along Marine Drive, crowds lingering long after businesses are closed along Marine Drive (and now we need to close the parking lots and patrol them).

Council’s answer to all of this … CCTV cameras. Talk about a lazy and ineffective solution.

Why don’t we try good old-fashioned prevention? That used to work. Now we rely on passive technology, which overreaches into the lives of the 99 per cent law-abiding citizens just for the few bad actors.

Instead of cameras, hire more police and try proactive police work and put some teeth into our laws. Cameras are like running after the horse after it has left the barn. Once you identify the perp, you have to go through the flawed and woke judicial system to get “justice.”
