Nigel Meredith Cutler

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nigel Meredith Cutler. Nigel departed this life peacefully at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, BC, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and laughter, cherished by his sons, Jeremy and Geoff (Hannah), his adored granddaughter Annie, his devoted partner Barb, along with her daughters and grandchildren, his brothers Paul, Kevin (Marina), and Roy, and a host of friends and relatives from around the world.

Nigel was predeceased by his parents, Olive and Albert, and his beloved wife of 31 years, Beverley.

Born in 1953 in Wraysbury, England, Nigel travelled by ship with his family to Vancouver, BC, the following year. He was a student at Trafalgar Park Elementary and Prince of Wales High School, where he developed a lifelong passion for music and the guitar, leading to his involvement in various bands and the creation of life-long friends.

Nigel loved to share many beautiful memories of his early life, such as family trips to Alice Lake, his father coaching his boyhood soccer team (Trafalgar Ti-Cats), pranks played with his brothers and friends, his famous long-haired European adventure, a memorable summer working at Pine Point mine, and the many evenings spent serenading lucky listeners with his favourite guitar.

One day after Nigel's 20th birthday, he tragically lost his own father. Nigel would commemorate his father's birthday each year, not just as a remembrance, but as a celebration of life and lessons passed down. Nigel was a figure of enduring respect and familial continuity.

Nigel's professional life brought him into the bustling B.C. seafood industry. His career was marked by integrity and hard work, progressing from a plant manager at Quality Fish to a sales agent at Bella Coola Fisheries, and eventually establishing his own seafood brokerage, West Coast Seafood Direct. He was well-respected within his field, building many close friendships and global connections.

It was during his time in the seafood industry, that he also began to build his black book of jokes. Nigel's memory for jokes was second to none. Whether they were one-liners, creative limericks, or long-winded monologues with a priceless (and often shocking) punchline, Nigel often found himself surrounded with laughter and smiling faces - always and forever will he be remembered as the life of the party.

Nigel began his family when he met his loving wife Beverely in 1982. They married and had their two children. Eventually moving to South Surrey in 1995, Nigel built roots in the community, enjoyed his close-knit family and friends, and embraced life's ups and downs.

Nigel was a devoted husband to his dear wife Bev for 31 years. During her own battle with Cancer, Nigel cared for her full-time and showed a paragon of resilience, quiet strength, and unwavering love and support for all of those that relied upon him.

Amid the profound grief of losing his wife, he prioritized the well-being and emotional needs of his children above his own, ensuring that their lives retained some semblance of normalcy despite the immense loss. Through his life-long steadfastness and courage, he taught his sons the importance of family solidarity.

After the loss of his wife, Nigel re-found love and partnership with Barb. They lifted each other up out of their own personal tragedies, and together they spent quality time enjoying retirement, travelling, boating on his beloved Saltaire, visiting with friends (new and old), and reveling in their roles as Grandparents to their much-loved grandchildren. The time they spent together will never be enough, but the happiness they brought each other was worth a lifetime.

Nigel's presence was a beacon of kindness, generosity, and humor. His passions for travel, music, enjoying a fine wine, a wee dram, and his unwavering commitment to family and friends defined his zest for life. Nigel truly was a legend in his own right.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 21st, beginning at 1pm at Victory Memorial Park, 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey, BC.
